RED BARN WORKSHOP

(Or the Abel family’s answer to problem solving.)

Paul was introduced to wood and metal, tools, machinery and grease from a very early age by both his father and grandfather - in whose house he now lives, and whose tools and equipment he still uses and who he is rapidly turning into.  As the Principle of Smithdale Millwrighting (named after his 3 x great uncle and Norfolk millwright Thomas Smithdale) he can call upon and grow these skills and experiences.

Although trained as an Engineer, Paul’s passion is wood and it is this empathy which produces such a diverse range of both the practical and whimsical!

Jodi has not only natural artistic flair, but also the ability to put ideas into actions quickly and efficiently, and she compliments this with the discipline to applying a fine level of detail to her work.

She is an avid re-cycler, realising craft and artistic potential in what most of us see as waste, a passion she shares with both children and adults in her Crafters’ Workshop courses.  You never know what she will produce next, but it’s invariably a pleasant surprise and her recent SteamPunk work has been very well received.

----------------------------------------

As one of the first ‘house husbands’ (an experience he has described as both illuminating and shocking) Mark has spent most of his life working for himself.  His love of old motorcycles led to the maintenance and repair of all kinds of machinery and he has had extensive experience in the construction, renovation and maintenance of buildings.

More recently he gained a unique understanding and appreciation of the practicalities of cereal growing, milling and bread baking during the first half of the last century, a subject he found both enjoyable and popular to share.

Now suffering poor health he continues as administrator for the Group and working in metal, but increasingly is becoming obsessed with clocks!
